Page 1Death, Mrs. Henry Gutshall
Mrs. Henry Gutshall of Van Meter, who died February 26 at the age of 88 years, had resided in Dallas county, the past sixty-six years. Mrs. Gutshall came to Van Meter, at the age of 22 years, and for a while resided with her sister, on what is known as the Norman farm, southeast of Van Meter. She moved to Van Meter, eighteen years ago, and had since made that town her home.
She is survived by five daughters and one son: Mrs. Mary Trindle of Sumner, Nebraska; Jane Seymour of San Bernardino, California; Jessie Freeborn, Long Beach, California, George Gutshall of Redfield, Josie Kitchell of Gary, Minnesota, and Maggie Couch of Shawnute, Montana. She also leaves 7 brothers, two sisters, 21 grandchildren and thirty-six great grandchildren.

Lucinda Parks Gutshall was born October 13, 1842, in Indiana and died at midnight, February 26 at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 13 days. At the age of 5 years she went with her parents to Wisconsin where she lived for one year and then moved to McGregor, Iowa.
She came to the Van Meter community at the age of about 22 years and for a while stayed with her sister on what is known as the Norman farm southeast of Van Meter. Since has since that time lived in this vicinity, moving to Van Meter eighteen years ago. Part of the time for the past five years she lived with her daughter, Mrs. Mary Trindle of Sumner, Nebraska, and her son, George Gutshall of Redfield. The last eleven months she has lived at her home in Van Meter.
On March 25, 1866 she was married to Henry Gutshall. To this union seven children were born, five girls and two boys. One boy, Charles, died at the age of nine years.
Early in life Mrs. Gutshall united with the church, later on she joined the Pleasant Grove Methodist church and when that church disbanded, she transferred her membership to the United Brethren church.
She is survived by her children, Mrs. Mary Trindle, Sumner, Nebraska; Mrs. Jane Seymour, of San Bernardino, California; Mrs. Jesse Freeborn, Long Beach, California; George Gutshall, Redfield; Mrs. Josie Kitchell of Gary, Minnesota, and Mrs. Maggie Couch, Sharonut, Montana. She also leaves seven brothers, two sisters, twenty-one grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gutshall was one of a family of twenty-three children.
Funeral services were held at the United Brethren church in Van Meter March 2. Burial in the Chapel cemetery.
