Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Arthurd passed away at the hospital at Iowa City, Monday, October 26th. She was 31 years of age October 23. Mrs. Arthurd was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Knox of Douglas township. She and her husband had been living at Sioux City, where Mr. Arthurd was an inspector in the packing plant there. She has been in ill health for the past five years. Several weeks ago she was taken to the hospital at Iowa City, where she remained until her death.
Funeral services were held at the Worthington church Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. P. Keast, assisted by Rev. A. R. Weed. Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth Arthaud
Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Joseph and Susie Knox was born October 23, 1900, in Madison county. She received her education in the rural schools, and Earlham high school graduating with the class of 1918, after which she studied music at Simpson College.
She was a successful teacher, teaching in the rural and high schools for four years, and later was superintendent of the consolidated school at Hartley.
At the age of eleven years she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior, and joined the church at Worthington, where she took an active part in the services of the Sunday school and Epworth League.
December 20, 1922, she was married to Alva E. Arthaud of Hartley, Iowa, where they made their home, later moving to Sioux City. On September 17, 1929, Elizabeth Carol came to gladden their home.
Beth has been in failing health the past six years, nevertheless her ambitious spirit never ceased as she planned for her home and family.
On October 26, 1931, she passed peacefully from this life.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, little Carol, her father, mother and brothers and sisters: Ray of Myton, Utah; Lois, Bernice, William and Alice of Earlham; Edith of Evanston, Illinois; Jessie and Granville of Los Angeles, California; and other relatives and friends.
