Death of Albert W. Handy

Albert William Handy, a former resident of the Patterson neighborhood, died in the Council Bluffs hospital, Saturday morning, August 23, at the age of 78 years. He had been in failing health for the past five years, but continued active until two days before his death, when he was taken to Council Bluffs for an operation.

The deceased was born in Missouri, April 20, 1853. When he was 9 years of age the family moved to a farm in Warren county near Spring Hill. He was married there to Emma Davis on April 23, 1874. They were the parents of nine children. Three died in infancy, one son Charles died at the age of 25 years, their daughter Ella died when 19 and Calvester died at the age of 42 in 1927. The three children surviving him are Russel William, and Mrs. Sylvia Osborn of Fonda, and Joseph of Lusk, Wyoming.

They lived on a farm near Patterson the greater part of their married life. Twelve years ago, they moved to a farm near Fonda, where they have since resided.

He leaves besides his wife and children, 11 grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Effie Rummell of Lusk, and Mrs. Jane Tague of Logan.

The body was brought to Winterset, and the Rev. John T. Hall, pastor of the Baptist church, conducted the funeral services at Tidrick’s funeral home, Tuesday afternoon, August 25, and interment was in the Montpelier cemetery, north of Patterson.
