Arch Bayard Chamberlain, son of Rev. and Mrs. D. W. Chamberlain, was born at Couders Port, Pennsylvania, February 9, 1857, and departed this life at the age of seventy-four years, three months and four days.
At the age of seven years he came with his father to Black Hawk county, Iowa. When thirteen years old he was thrown on his own resources, and spent several years in northern Iowa, settling in Jones county in 1876.
December 20, 1881, he was married to Florence Curtis. To this union was born three children, Clyde C., who resides on the home place, Ernest N., who preceded his father in death August 20, 1912, and Catherine E., who, with her children, Helen and Martha, resides in the home.
They settled in a farm home where the strongest home ties were founded for the future years of their family. In the year 1900 they came to this county, residing on the farm in Douglas township until thirteen years ago, when they moved to Winterset.
The proof of this whole-hearted home was shown when they cared for Lyle Sturtevant during the years when he most needed a home; also Mrs. George T. Williams of Davenport, Mrs. Raymond L.
