Opal Eloise Ganoe, 88, of Winterset died of a respiratory ailment Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Integrated Health Services in Winterset.

Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the First Christian Church in Winterset with Dr. Bobby G. Dickerson officiating. Burial was at Oakdale Cemetery in Adel.

Opal Ganoe was born Sept. 30, 1909, in Valley Junction to James Leroy and Irene Souders Anker. She was married March 24, 1934, in Des Moines to Dwight Garland Ganoe.

She was a resident of Winterset for 52 years and worked as a clerk for Mode O Day clothing store and Clark Television. She was a member of the Diaconate Committee at the Christian Church, C.W.F., Rebekah-Ruth Group, Order of the Eastern Star, Past Matrons, A.V.A. Club, Dallas County Mental Health Board, volunteered as a Gray Lady at Veterans Hospital, Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and Care Review Board at Progressive Options. She also was a member of the First Christian Church in Winterset.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son; two brothers, Howard and Robert Anker; four nephews and a great-niece.

She is survived by two sons, James (wife Jean) of Winterset and Bill R. (wife Alisoun) of Des Moines; one daughter, Sharon L. (husband Lowell) Sankey of Winterset; three brothers, Earl (wife Carolyn) Anker of Earlham, Charles (wife Shirley) of Earlham and Merle (wife Pat) of Florissant, Mo.; three sisters, Maxine Jungman of Adel, Jeanne Cook and Thelma Hunt; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Anker of Albany, Ga., and Mildred Anker of Stuart; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
