Bertha "Bert" L. (Standing) Osborn, 78, of Earlham died on Monday, Aug. 25, 1997 from a brain tumor associated with melanoma at the Earlham Health Care Center, where she had been a resident for two months. A memorial service is planned for Sunday, Aug. 31 at the Bear Creek Friends Conservative Meeting House in Earlham at 11 a.m. The body was cremated by the Cremation Society of Iowa in Ankeny.

Mrs. Osborn was born Nov. 11, 1918 in Earlham to E. Gilbert and Asenath J. Henderson Standing. She lived near Earlham and attended the one-room Cedar Grove School until eighth grade. Mrs. Osborn went on to attend school in Barnesville, Ohio, and attended one year at Pasadena Junior College in Pasadena, Calif.

Mrs. Osborn married Allen Richard Osborn of Earlham on Aug. 26, 1944 in Earlham. The family farmed near Earlham before moving to Ames from 1955-1978. The family then returned to the Earlham area. Mrs. Osborn was a part-time housekeeper. She was also active in the Bear Creek Friends Conservative Meeting House and the Sunshine Quilting Circle in Earlham.

Mrs. Osborn is survived by two daughters, Nancy Johnson of Ames and Joyce Osborn of Iowa City; one son, Steve of Tecumeseh, Mo.; five sisters, Florence Guindon of Lodi, Ohio, Helen Spriegel of Gallipolis, Ohio, Evelyn Thomas of Hiawasee, Ga., Lucille Guindon of Monteverde, Costa Rica, Gladys Bierma of Des Moines; and two brothers, Henry Standing of Norfolk, Mass., and Harold Standing of Ankeny.
