SAD DEATH BY SUICIDE

Lincoln Township Young Woman Ends Life; Ill Health the Cause

Mis Altha Wolfe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Wolf of Lincoln township, committed suicide in a Creston hotel on last Thursday. The family formerly lived near Greenfield and Miss Wolfe went there last week to visit friends. She took the train to Creston, purchased a revolver at a hardware store, secured a room at one of the hotels, and after writing a note ended her life.

The bereavement is an unusually heavy one to her family, who are highly esteemed people. The unfortunate young lady had a severe illness during the past year, and had since been in poor health, which is thought to have caused [her] mind to become unbalanced.

ALTHA WOLFE

Altha Wolfe, younger daughter of H. R. and Sue Wolfe, was born in Stroudsburg, Pa., Sept. 12, 1892. When she was but two years old the family moved to Iowa, which has since been her home, except a short residence in Kansas, when she was a young girl. Altha was a very ambitious girl.

By deprivation she obtained her education. After finishing her school work in Creston, she attended Boyles' business college at Omaha. At the completion of this course, she was employed by Judge Connor of Denison, Iowa. After several months of this congenial work she was called home by her mother's failing health to relieve her mother of the household cares, and she performed these duties loving and efficiently. No sacrifice too great to make for mother's sake. Her death is the first in this family, besides her father and mother, she leaves one sister, Mrs. Edna Schwab of Greenfield, three brothers: Arch of Orient, Frank of Prescott and Jay of Winterset.

Little more than a year ago, she plighted her faith to Benton Thrift of Winterset. They were devoted to each other and were looking forward to a long life together. Their plans were being happily fulfilled until last April, when she was seized by a serious malady which resulted in her death Sept. 7, 1916.

The funeral services were held from the Penn Avenue church, Adair county, Sunday, Sept. 10th, conducted by Rev. A. A. Smidt, of Greenfield, and her body was laid away in the cemetery nearby.
