Death of Hiram Phillips

Patterson, Special. February 4.

Hiram Phillips, a long time resident of this community, passed away at his home in Patterson Tuesday morning, February 3. Mr. Phillips has been in poor health for a number of years but more serious complications developed last week at which time his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Walter Phillips of Des Moines came to care for him.

Mr. Phillips will be greatly missed, especially by the children of the community. He is survived by five children, Rose of California, Agnes of Ohio, Pearl of Patterson, Walter of Des Moines and Mae of Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services will be held from the Patterson M. E. church Thursday afternoon, burial at Blair Chapel.

Hiram Phillips

Hiram Phillips, seventy-two years of age, passed away Tuesday morning, February 3, at his home in Patterson, following a brief illness.

Services were held at the Methodist church in Patterson with Rev. Verne E. Kopfer in charge. Burial was made at Blair Chapel.

He was born in Madison County, February 25, 1858, and has lived here all his life. He was married to Olivia M. Walker September 30, 1883. She passed away May 11, 1908.

He is survived by his five children: Walter S. Phillips of Des Moines, Mrs. Rosa Pace of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Pearl Fort of Patterson, Mrs. Agnes Short of Elyria, Ohio, W. M. Phillips of Cedar Rapids, Ia., seven grand-children, three brothers and one sister, and a host of friends.

For many years he has been a member of the United Brethren church.
