Alvin M. Cooper, Lucas, Iowa

Alvin Marion Cooper was born September 8, 1916 in Madison County, the son of Ocein Meade Cooper and Joe Cooper. He died at the age of 71 years on February 3, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines of a heart ailment.

On March 23, 1940, he was united in marriage to Ruby Lake. To this marriage two children were born, daughter Pam Clyde of Harlan and a son Craig of Chariton.

While a resident of Winterset he was employed by M. Young & Co. In 1944-46 he served in the United States Army. He received the Victory Medal, Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars; two overseas service Bars; Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart Medal in the European African Midd le Eastern Theater.

In 1949 they moved to Lucas, Iowa where he was engaged in farming. For eighteen years he was employed as Manager at the Lucas County Farm. In 1979 he retired to their farm.

He belonged to the American Legion for 41 years, Paul Revere Masonic Lodge at Lucas; United Commercial Travelers; Disabled Veterans and a former Shrine member.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ocein and Joe Cooper, three brothers, Willard, Harold and Wayne and one sister, Mae Lutz.

Surviving are his wife Ruby, daughter Pam, son Craig, three granddaughters, one grandson, three sisters, Josphine Clark of Dexter, Grace Lucas of Winterset and a brother Emory Cooper of Reinbeck, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 5, 1988 at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn Ryon officiating.

Military services were held by the Carl L. Caviness Post #102 and Masonic services were by the Paul Revere Lodge No. 638 A.F.& A.M. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
