Death of Mrs. R. E. Coon

Mrs. R. E. Coon, a long time resident of Winterset, died Sunday morning, Oct. 14th, at 2:30 o'clock, in Omaha, at the home of her brother, Joe Fahnestock. Mr. and Mrs. Coon had been in Des Moines, visiting the latter's sister, Mrs. Lula Stahlgren and had then gone to Omaha to make a visit. They were on a street car Saturday evening, when Mrs. Coon was stricken with heart trouble and they immediately took her to her brother's home, but the doctors could not help her, and she died during the night. The body was brought to Winterset Monday afternoon and funeral services were conducted this afternoon at 2:30 at the Church of Christ by Rev. Stanley Gillet. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

While Mrs. Coon has had poor health for a number of years, her death came as a shock to her many Winterset friends. She was very active in all of her church work, especially in Sunday school work, as long as her health permitted her to do this.

She was born in Covington, Ohio, in 1862 and came here with her parents when a child seven years old. She is survived by her husband, R. E. Coon; three brothers: Sheridan and Rupert of Des Moines and Joseph of Omaha, and one sister, Mrs. Lula Stahlgren of Des Moines.

Berta Fahnestock, oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Fahnestock, was born April 10, 1862 in Covington, Ohio. She came with her parents to Iowa in 1869. In 1875 they moved to Winterset, where she has resided ever since. May 8, 1880, she was married to R. E. Coon.

Mrs. Coon passed away at Omaha, Nebr., Oct. 14, while visiting at the home of her brother, Joseph L. Fahnestock. Her death came as a complete surprise as she was in comparatively good health up to the time of her death, which was caused by heart failure.

She leaves to mourn her loss, a husband, R. E. Coon of Winterset; three brothers, Rupert and Sheridan of Des Moines and Joseph L. of Omaha; and the sister, Lulu Stahlgren, also of Des Moines.

She was a member of the Church of Christ. Her faithfulness, love and loyalty to her Master were an indication of her Christian character. She was kind, loving and devoted to her family, and leaves loving memories in the hearts of those who survive her.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Stanley A. Gillet, pastor of the Baptist church and the body was laid to rest in the Winterset cemetery.
