November 1996Miriam Deborah Standing, 93, of Winterset, died of leukemia on Nov. 17, 1996 in Winterset. Funeral services were Nov. 22 at Bear Creek Conservative Friends Meeting House in rural Earlham. Burial was at the Bear Creek Cemetery.
She was born Dec. 7, 1902 in rural Dallas County to Alfred and Alice (Crew) Standing. Following boarding school, she attended Iowa State College and graduated from Penn College in 1927. Following a teaching career, she spent most of her remaining years farming and managing a dairy herd. She assisted Dr. Pammel, during the development of Pammel Park in rural Madison County. She was responsible for identification, inventory and collection of the plant life at the park as well as the preservation and cataloging of those species.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother.
Surviving relatives include one sister, Eleanor Standing Hutzell of Algona; several nieces and nephews including Sally Russell of Earlham.
