CATHERINE E. SHAFFER Rites Held

Funeral services were held here Monday for Catherine E. Shaffer of rural Winterset, a longtime resident of this county. Mrs Shaffer died at Des Moines General Hospital last Thursday, August 1, 1974, at the age of 81

Catherine E. Shaffer was born at Monticello, Iowa on April 10, 1893, the daughter of Arch B. and Florence Curtis Chamberlain. She moved to Madison County in 1900.

Mrs. Shaffer married Glenn Wray in 1914, and was preceded in death by him in 1919. She later married Hugh Egy in 1925, and was preceded in death by him in 1927. She was married to Clyde C. Shaffer in 1936, and was preceded in death by him in 1961.

Mrs. Shaffer was affiliated with the Worthington Church in Douglas Township. A retired practical nurse, she also belonged to the Crown Rebekah Lodge of Winterset.

Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Helen (Cecil) Clark of Winterset; Mrs. Patricia Hedrick of Winterset; and Mrs. Edith Kenoyer of Madrid. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Shaffer was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, her husbands and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, August 5 at the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with the Rev. Dr. Paul Hann, presiding. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery.
