MRS. EMMA CONARD OF ST. CHARLES DIES

Mrs. Emma Conard, a well known Madison county resident, died May 15 at a St. Charles nursing home. She had been stricken a week earlier with a heart attack.

Mrs. Conard was 89 years of age. She was the former Emma Carter, daughter of John and Adeline Smothers Carter and was born in a log cabin north of Blair chapel on March 10, 1872.

She was married on Oct. 14, 1891 to Casper Conard. They spent their 67 years of married life in the St. Charles community until his death on Feb. 20, 1959.

She was member of the St. Charles Methodist church.

Surviving are three children, Elroy Conard of St. Charles, Mrs. Ivy Shannon of Bevington and Mrs. Addie Frey of Des Moines; a brother, O. M. Carter of St. Charles; a sister, Mrs. Estella Jones of St. Charles; seven grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
