Arnold E. Coghlan, a lifetime resident of Madison County and former mayor of Peru, died at Madison Manor North in Winterset last Tuesday, December 11, at the age of 82.
Mr. Coghlan was born on October 11, 1891 in Poweshiek County, Iowa, the son of G. M. and Mary Sanders Coghlan. He was married in Peru on October 1, 1913 to Frona Lilley.
He devoted his lifetime to work on the Chicago and North Western Railroad, as well as to farming, and spent 15 years as mayor of the town of Peru. He was affiliated with the Peru Methodist Church.
Survivors include five sons: Maurice, Marion and Edgar, all of Winterset; Lowell of Junction City, Kansas; and Curtis of Creston, Iowa; and one daughter; Mrs. Rosemary E. Adams of Ames, Iowa. Eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive, as well as a sister, Mrs. Francis Ferguson of Frederick, Colorado.
Mr. Coghlan was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one sister, and two brothers.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 14, 1973 at the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, with the Rev. Paul Bousfield presiding. Burial was in Winterset Cemetery.
