1995

James Michael Gomez, 51, of Colfax, died of a heart attack, ending his battle with lung cancer on July 21, 1995. Services were held July 25 at the All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart with Rev. Richard Bergman officiating. Burial was at the Calvary Cemetery in Stuart with military honors by the Stuart American Legion Post.

He had grown up in the Dexter-Earlham area and graduated from the Earlham High School. He had served in the U.S. Army with the 2nd Airborne Division. He was a quality control specialist at Maytag Corporation in Newton. He was also a volunteer worker at a Newton group home.

Surviving relatives include his parents, Elias (Ike) and Marjorie Gomez of rural Earlham; his wife, Dolly Melroy-Gomez of Colfax; one daughter, Angela Robbins of Des Moines; two sons, Jimmy Gomez of Newton and Tony Gomez of Colfax; 10 brothers, David Gomez of Shell Rock, Thomas and Robert Gomez of Des Moines, Rick Gomez of Lorimor, Pat Gomez of Earlham, Bill Gomez of Dexter, Dennis Gomez of Menlo, and Jack Gomez of Earlham; eight sisters, Jean Moll of Des Moines, Mary Gomez of Pratt, Kan., Cathy Callahan and Janet Taylor of Earlham, Cindy Boucher of Des Moines, Margaret Tiernan of Stuart, Joyce Gomez of Earlham, and Barb Boss of Stuart; 42 nieces and nephews, two great-nephews and two grand-nieces.
