December 1967CAROLYN S. CLEMENTS
Carolyn Stanley, daughter of Charles A. and Margaret Stanley, was born at Earlham, Iowa, on April 4, 1887 and at the close of the day on December 5, 1967 quietly slipped away to her reward at the age of 80 years, 8 months and one day.
At an early age her parents moved to their farm north of Earlham, where she attended the country school, grew to womanhood and graduated from the old Earlham Academy with the class of 1906.
She was united in marriage to Eugene Brown of Earlham on September 4, 1906 and they moved to Basin, Wyoming, and later to Malden, Washington where they operated a café. Her husband was stricken with typhoid fever and passed away December 30, 1909, leaving her with two small children, John and Mildred. Carolyn faced her great loss with courage, came back to Earlham and obtained work in a home, that she might be able to support her little ones and also give them a mother’s care.
She was married to Frank Clements June 17, 1913, and they established a home on a farm near Earlham, where she was a kind and affectionate wife and he, too, was a loving husband and father, who helped make a happy home for her children. One son, Virgil, came to share their home.
She leaves to mourn her passing three children, John Brown of Earlham, Mildred Miles of Patterson and Virgil Clements of Dexter, two sisters, five brothers, eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
