Elderly Woman Lived Most of Her Long Life at Macksburg
Mrs. Rosetta Shearer, a resident of Madison county since childhood, died at the Mercy hospital in Des Moines Thursday, March 4 at the age of 79 years.
Mrs. Shearer was the former Mary Rosetta Clement, daughter of John and Lidia Clement, and was born in Humboldt, Nebr., on April 13, 1869. When a small child she moved with her parents to Macksburg and most of her life was spent in that community.
She was married March 7, 1888, to Hugh Shearer. They were the parents of one son, James Wesley, who died at the age of four years. Her husband died in 1937, and since then she had been making her home with her sister, Ina Clement in Winterset.
In addition to Miss Clement, she is survived by three other sisters, Mrs. Josie Huston of Peru, Mrs. Tressie Trautwein of Macksburg, and Mrs. Sibbie Southwick of Malta, Mont.
Funeral services were held Sunday from the Macksburg Baptist church in charge of the Rev. Milton Houts. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.
