John Cleland, Dallas Center

A funeral service was held today at 1:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset for John W. Cleland, who died Monday, June 28, at Des Moines General Hospital. He was 67 years old.

Born in Madison County on Feb. 25, 1915, he was the son of John and Genevieve Johnston Cleland. He lived most of his life in Madison county before taking up residence in Dallas Center.

He was employed by Solar Air Craft and also worked for Frank Conklin Farms, Norwalk, for 36 years. He was a member of the Madison County Coon Hunters Association and the Iowa State Coon Hunters Club.

Mr. Cleland was married three times. His first two wives, Dorothy Farr and Mildred Folck, are deceased. His third wife, Violet Sheets, survives him.

In addition to his first two wives, he was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include two sons, Dwight and Terry of Des Moines; six step-sons, Marvin Folck of Davenport, Donald Folck of Ft. Madison, Harold and Raymond Sheets of Perry and Ralph Sheets of Waukee; five daughters, Delores Tjarks of St. Charles, Lorraine Hathaway of Altoona, Donna Pearson and Carolyn Kraack of Winterset, and Diana Lynam of Lorimor; two step-daughters, Dorothy Myers of Osceola an Linda Kilmer of Adel; a brother, Clifford of Des Moines; 16 grandchildren, 17 step-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren.

Rev. Bob Culbertson officiated at the funeral service. Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery.
