Harold R. "Red" Cleghorn, 81, of rural Patterson died of multiple organ failure May 9, 2003 at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 13 at Hamilton's Funeral Home in Des Moines. Burial was at Avon Cemetery.

Red Cleghorn was born March 15, 1922, to Ralph and Irene (Talbert) Cleghorn of Cooper. On Nov. 15, 1945, he was united in marriage to Peggy Williams in Des Moines. During Red's professional career, he did set-up for Solar Aircraft and later was a welder for PDM Steel in Des Moines. A resident of rural Patterson since 1955, he had previously resided in Des Moines. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, surviving D-Day.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Charles Cleghorn; a sister, Hazel Green; and a grandson, Brian Cleghorn.

He is survived by two sons, Jerry Cleghorn of Winterset and Andy Cleghorn of Des Moines; three daughters, Diane Piercy, Bonny Young and Coral Silk, all of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
