Roger Clayton, Earlham

Roger F. Clayton, 56, of Earlham died of cancer July 24, 2003, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 28, at the First Presbyterian Church in Earlham with the Revs. Dr. Ray Martin and Jim Howland officiating. Burial was Tuesday, July 29, at Earlham Cemetery with military rites performed by Earlham American Legion Post 158.

Roger Clayton was born Jan. 18, 1947, to Harold and Hedwig (Hintz) Clayton of Osage and raised in Riceville. He was a graduate of Utah Technical School in Salt Lake City, Utah, with a degree in machining and welding. He had lived in Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, Dallas and Osage, settling in Earlham in 1999. He had been a tanker driver for Sinclair Oil. Roger was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Earlham and American Legion Post 158. While in Utah, he had served as an Eagle scoutmaster and president of the Salt Lake Invitational Pool League. He also was an Earlham Freedom Fest volunteer. He was an United States Army veteran, serving in Vietnam.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Earlham; a daughter, Denise; a sister, Hazel Hodges; a brother, David; and three grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter, Earlham and Redfield.
