VIRGIL JONES, Farmer Dies Cutting Tree

Virgil E. Jones, Webster township farmer, was found dead Saturday, Sept. 11, 1954, near his farm home. He had been engaged in cutting down a tree and his body was found near the fallen tree. It was considered probable that the tree had struck him in falling.

Mr. Jones was 67 years of age, and had lived in Madison county the last 23 years. He was born in Clarke county April 26, 1877, a son of David and Kathryn Wallace Jones. He was married there on July 24. 1907, to Carolyn Harsch, who survives him.

In addition to his wife, he leaves three sons and three daughters, Pearl Jones of Fontanelle, Mrs. Ruth Nobles of Risley, Colo., Lisle Jones of Winterset, Mrs. Lucille Davis of Garden Grove, Mrs. Harriet Thompson of Booneville, and Pvt. Merrill Jones of Camp Rucker, Ala. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Ruie Critz of Osceola and two brothers, Elza Jones of Osceola and (-) Jones of Lorimor; in addition to 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Richards Funeral home conducted by the Rev. H. D. Rosenberger, pastor of the Winterset Foursquare church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
