Mabel Clarke Dies At 80

Mabel Pearle Clarke of Truro died Wednesday, Feb. 11 at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa. She was 80 years old.

Mrs. Clarke was born Sept. 19, 1900 in Powesheik County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ed Hess and Jett Leinhart Hess. She received her education at Elm Grove Schools.

In 1919 she married Charles Clarke in ceremonies held at the Methodist Church in Peru, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Clarke had a total of 10 children together, all of whom are still living.

A housewife, she belonged to the Truro Thursday Girls Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Elizabeth Sturat and Cassie Ogburn.

She is survived by her husband; six daughters: Edna Shreeves of St. Charles, Lyla Waller of Winterset, Norma Lunnon of Fullerton, Calif., Cleo Roby of Red Oak, Iowa, Dorthea Edwards of Anaheim, Calif., and Judith Bedwell of St. Charles; four sons, Charles Clarke, Jr. of Beatrice, Neb., Norman Clarke of Winterset and Phillip Clarke and Jerry Clarke of Truro.

Also surviving are two sisters, Myrtle and Cleta Oglesbee of Winterset; one brother, Arnold Hess of Murray; 24 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Friday, Feb. 13 at the Christian Church in Truro, Rev. Rolland Towell officiating. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.

Mable Clarke Services Friday

Mabel Pearle Clarke, 80 of Truro, died at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola Wednesday, February 11.

Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 13 at the Truro Christian Church, Rev. George Campbell of Truro and Rev. Rolland Towell of St. Charles officiated, with interment in the St. Charles Cemetery.

Mabel Pearle Clarke was born in Poweshiek County, Iowa September 19, 1900, the daughter of Ed and Jett Leinhart Hess. She received her education in the Elm Grove schools and May 6, 1919, was united in marriage to Charles Clarke in the Peru, Iowa Methodist Church. They were the parents of 10 children. She was a member of the Truro Thursday Girls Club.

She is survived by her husband, Charles of Truro, daughters, Edna Shreves and husband, Delmar of St. Charles, Lyla Waller and husband, Harold of Winterset, Norma Lunnon and husband, Larry of Fullerton, California, Cleo Roby and husband, Paul Jr. of Red Oak, Dorthea Edwards and husband, William of Anaheim, California, Judith Bedwell and husband, Ross of St. Charles, sons Charles Clarke Jr. and wife, Marianne of Beatrice, Nebraska, son Norman Clarke and wife, Nancy of Winterset, Phillip Clarke and wife, Carol of Truro, and Jerry Clarke and wife, Charlotte of Truro.

She is survived also by 24 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, two sisters Myrtle Oglesbee and Cleta Oglesbee both of Winterset and one brother Arnold Hess of Murray.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Elizabeth Stuart and Cassie Ogbourn.
