Charles Clark, 100, life-long resident of Madison County, died Friday, Mar. 25, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center of heart failure.

Mr. Clark, who celebrated his 100th birthday last Dec. 2 at an open house at his Winterset residence was a farmer most of his life. In recent years, he was active as a gardener at his residence moving to town in 1973. Last fall, he was featured in the Madisonian as a life-long Republican who participated in every election and voted in the general election when officials brought him a ballot at home.

He lived in Winterset with his daughter, Albert Cox, who survives. He was born Dec. 2, 1882 to Ben and Nancy Gatchel Clark and married Lois Eva Brittain on Feb. 24, 1909. She died June 28, 1980.

Other survivors include a son, Dale Clark of Lake View, Iowa; another daughter, Elsie Winger of Spirit Lake; a sister, Bessie Caudle of Winterset; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, a son, and three brothers.

Services were held Tuesday, Mar. 29, at 10:30 p.m. at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Alan Parker officiating. Burial was at North McDonald cemetery.
