John W. Reigle, son of Daniel and Elizabeth Reigle, was born in Van Buren county, Iowa, March 22, 1854. He came to Madison county with his parents that same year, and had resided here ever since, except for one year in Kansas.
He was married to Lillie Bell Roderick, February 19, 1882, and to this union were born five children, all of whom survive the father except Alice May, who died in infancy. These are Onah M. Reigle, Mrs. Mabel Hazen, Lloyd A. Reigle and Mrs. Ethel Golightly, all residing nearby.
Mr. Reigle joined the U. B. church, Jefferson class, 35 years ago. He had been an official member for 30 years. He was also a member of the A.F. & A.M. lodge of Van Meter. He was a man of sterling qualities, of great integrity, a kind husband, a considerate father, a loyal and true friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
There remain to mourn his departure, his wife, four children, four grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters and a host of friends.
The funeral services were held at the Jefferson U.B. church, with Rev. Hampshire, the pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. E. A. Elliott, of Des Moines, who was pastor there 27 years ago. Interment was made in the Jefferson cemetery, in the family lot, the Masonic lodge of Van Meter having charge of the committal ceremony.
Out of town relatives and friends present were, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Reigle and daughter, Marion, of Granger, and their son, Kenneth Reigle, and wife, of Perry; a sister, Mrs. Emma White, and nephew, J. W. Free, of Des Moines, and Mr. and Mrs. Russel Schoen, of Martensdale.
