Death of Mrs. J. S. Hylton

Mrs. J. S. Hylton, who had been residing with her son, Dale Hylton and family for the past five months, died last Wednesday, September 3, at the age of 63 years. Mrs. Hylton had had several strokes of apoplexy, and the latter part of August suffered another, which caused her death at the Hylton home on North Fifth street.

The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas White and was born in Henry county, April 2, 1867. On the 15th of October, 1885, she was married to James S. Hylton, and they made their home for a number of years in Elmwood, Nebraska. In 1897, they returned to Lorimor, and in 1909 they moved to Des Moines, where the home had since been retained. Mr. Hylton died in 1919.

Mrs. Hylton discontinued housekeeping a couple of years ago, and spent the last year in California. In April she came to Winterset, where she had since been located.

She is survived by three children, Mrs. Alta Hart, of Burbank, California; Dale of Winterset, and Mrs. Helen Griffith of Valley Junction. Two children have preceded the mother in death.

Six friends from Des Moines, who were members of the Royal Neighbors lodge, served as pall bearers at the funeral services held at Tidrick’s funeral home, Friday, September 5th: Mesdames Laura Byram, Rose Tenny, Grace Bedford, Roma Murphy, Ella Perkins and Grace McCurdy. The Rev. A. P. Keast preached the funeral sermon, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

More details of her life may be found in the mortuary column.
