Mrs. Mary E. Cash
Mary Eliza McMullen was born in West Liberty, Ohio, August 21, 1837 and died June 1, 1923, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T. M. Scott in Winterset, Iowa at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 10 days.
She was a daughter of James and Mary McMullen and came with her parents from Ohio to Oskaloosa, Ia. in 1851, and lived there until her marriage in 1855 to Francis Irwin Cash. She accompanied her husband to his home at Winterset, Ia.; where she has lived continuously ever since.
She was the mother of six children, three of whom have gone whose names are Mary Michaels of Ackley, Iowa, who died four years ago, Sarah Eva and Frank Leslie, both of whom died in infancy. The three children who are living are: John Leland Cash of Superior, Wis., M. I. Cash of St. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. Jean Scott of Winterset, Iowa.
She was a devoted mother, a kind, helpful neighbor who was ever ready and willing to do her part in all the activities of the community. To know her was to love her and she will be greatly missed by all.
She leaves to mourn her death two sons and one daughter, two brothers, Philander McMullen of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Ross McMullen of Washington, D.C.
She has been a life long member of the Presbyterian church living an exemplary life and always a devout Christian. She was a member of the W.R.C. and was an active member of the W.C.T.U. as long as she was able to attend.
Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church Sabbath afternoon with LeRoy C. Cooley, D.D., preaching an appropriate sermon. Her last resting place is in Rock City cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Cash, one of the early settlers of this town and county, died Friday morning, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T. M. Scott, after an illness of three weeks. In 1917, Mrs. Cash had a serious illness from which she never fully recovered. Three weeks ago, she had neuralgia in her head and in some manner this affected her heart and she became gradually weaker until she died. She suffered a great deal until the last.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
Mrs. Cash came to Winterset in 1855 as the bride of the late Frank R. Cash, who was a tailor in this town. Mrs. Cash has continuously made Winterset he home, with the exception of a year at Ackley and a year at Boone.
She has been a member of the Presbyterian church for many years and also of the Women's Relief Corps and the W. C. T. U. She attended the meetings of the church and these organizations regularly, until her declining health prevented her doing so. Mrs. Cash had a wide group of friends in this town and county, who will be sorry to hear of her illness and death.
She leaves to mourn, her daughter, Mrs. T. M. Scott of Winterset; her sons, John L. Cash of Superior, Wis., and S. R. Cash of St. Paul, Minn., and a brother, Ralph M. McMullen of Marshalltown.
