Company A Veteran Lived Entire Life in Madison County
William I. Case, a life-long resident of the Winterset community and one of its best known citizens over a long period of years, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Veterans' hospital in Des Moines. He was 77 years of age.
Mr. Case was born in Madison county on Dec. 30, 1881, a son of Separate and Adelphia Miller Case. As a young man he served as a sergeant in Winterset's Company A, Iowa National Guard, and served with that unit on the Mexican border in 1916 and through the western front campaign in France during World War I.
Following that war he was employed at the Winterset post office for many years until his retirement.
Mr. Case never married. He is survived by a brother, Ersie N. Case of Hancock and by three nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday from the Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. John Porath, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
