A funeral service was held Friday, June 4, at the United Methodist Church in St. Charles for Guy Warren Carter, a former St. Charles resident who died June 2 at Des Moines General Hospital. He was 86 years old.
Born in Hanley on October 1, 1895, he was the son of Peter and Ona Howard Carter.
He attended country schools in Madison county and on January 14, 1920 married Alma Harris in Benton, Iowa. Three children were born to the couple.
Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ella Hogue; and a grandson, Paul.
Survivors include his wife, Alma, of St. Charles; two sons, Harry of Des Moines and Ivan of Wichita, Kansas; a daughter, Esther Ellis of El Dorado, Kansas; a sister, Ethel Smith of St. Charles; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Rev. Chet Waterman officiated at the funeral service, with burial at St. Charles Cemetery.
