Former St. Charles resident Gayle Hamilton Carter died September 10 at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha at the age of 85. She was born December 3, 1891, at Newell, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin J. and Emma Josephine Rust Trumbauer. She was educated at Patterson.
After her marriage to Walkup Carter on January 26, 1910 in Des Moines, they farmed in the St. Charles area until 1946 when they retired to St. Charles. For the past three years, she has been a resident of the Little Flower Haven Home in Earling, Iowa. She was a member of the St. Charles Methodist Church.
Mrs. Carter is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Fletcher (Alberta) Boggess of Harlan and Mrs. William (Thelma) Mueller of Hobart, Indiana; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Hugh Eldon; three brothers, LaVerne, Frank and Irvin; and three sisters, Mae Davis, Blanch Dowler and Adeline Burkhead.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 12 at the St. Charles Parish, St. Charles, with Rev. Rolland C. Towell officiating. Burmeister Funeral Home of Harlan conducted services with burial in the St. Charles Cemetery.
