Laurence V. Callahan, Winterset

Services for Laurence V. Callahan, 75, Winterset, who died May 18 at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, were held Monday, May 22, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with the Rev. Frank Palmer officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

Born on Oct. 1, 1913, at Humboldt, he was the son of James and Katherine Scott Callahan. Mr. Callahan was a custodian at the Madison County Courthouse for many years. He married Helen Elinor Rose Showers on Oct. 8, 1938 at Fort Dodge, Iowa.

He had lived here the past 31 years, coming from St. Charles. He was a member of St. Joseph's church.

Survivors include sons, James of Bloomington, Minn., Donald of Lincoln, Neb., Dwayne and Gordon, both of Omaha, Neb., and Roger of Earlham; daughters, Diann Farwell of Joliet, Ill., Paulette Hochstetler and Nancy Wiedman, both of Winterset; a brother, Joseph Callahan of Sheldon; sisters, Bernice Sorenson of Wapello and Mildred Larson of Sheldon; and 19 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two brothers.
