Death of Mrs. Pat Callahan

The death of Mrs. Patrick Callahan, 86 year old resident of Union township occurred at her home, two miles east of Winterset early Monday morning, March 7th. Mrs. Callahan had been in poor health for several years, but was able to be up and sit in her chair until Saturday night.

Her maiden name was Catherine Flynn and she was born near Ballina County Marys' Ireland, in 1846. In 1864 she immigrated to America with her parents, and they settled in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Here she was married on October 26, 1873 to Patrick Callahan. Three years later the couple came to Madison county, and with the exception of four years residence in Indianola, they have always made this place their home.

They were the parents of seven children, five of whom survive her; Thomas of Havre, Montana, Mrs. Kate Ryan of Chicago, Mamie, Frank and Nellie at home. The father died October 31, 1916.

Mrs. Callahan was of a quiet nature, and disposition, devoted to her home and family. During the past ten years of her life, she rarely ever left home, except to go to church. She has been an invalid the past two years of her life.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's church at Winterset, at nine o'clock Wednesday morning, and interment was made at St. Patrick's cemetery in Lee township.
