Medical Examiner Reports Death Resulted From Natural Causes
Miller Burns, a well known Winterset resident, was found dead Saturday in the home on North Ninth street where he lived alone.
The body was found that morning by Marshall Carmi Poush, who had been called by the newspaper carrier boy when he noticed that the previous day's paper had not been removed.
Marshall Poush called Dr. Paul Eggleston, county medical examiner, to the scene. After an investigation Doctor Eggleston reported death was from natural causes, and apparently occurred on Nov. 19, two days before the body was found.
Mr. Burns was a life-time resident of the Winterset community. He was born near Winterset Nov. 13, 1885, and was 79 years of age at his death. He was a son of John and Sarah Greer Burns.
His life was spent in farming near Winterset, until his retirement in 1951, when he moved into town.
Mr. Burns never married. He was the last surviving member of a family of five children. Nearest surviving relatives are nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the Collins Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. William E. Bowles, pastor of the First Christian church of Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
