Charles Wilbur Burkett, Peru

Graveside services for Charles Wilbur Burkett of Peru, 63, who died Oct. 17 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, were held Wednesday Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. at the Peru Cemetery. Officiating was Robert Johnson of Des Moines and Kale Funeral Home, Truro handled the arrangements.

He was born April 9, 1919 in Clarkesdale, the son of Joseph E. Burkett and Nora Judd Burkett. He graduated from Keosauqua High School and married Florence E. Hendricks in Bloomfield, Sept. 22, 1937. The couple had four children.

Mr. Burkett lived in Peru the past six years. He belonged to Mensas Society and Masonic Lodge of Winterset. Survivors include his wife, Florence, Peru; sons, Clarence and wife Patricia, Winnebego, Minn., Dean and wife,Christine, Earlham and Joe and wife Sue, Peru; a daughter, Janet Smith and husband Dean, Lorimor; 10 grandchildren, one great grandchild, four sisters and one brother.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and a grandson, Franklin Joseph.
