Dorotha Louise Bryan, Des Moines

Dorotha Louise Bryan was born June 2, 1919 to Percy and Grace M. Beaman Estell at Dexter, Iowa. One of five children, she spent her early life in the family home helping with family activities and attending school in Winterset where she graduated. Later she received her Normal Training Certificate in Madison county and taught school for a year at Peru.

On March 10, 1938 she married John L. Bryan. To this union were born five children. Dorotha helped with the farming activities along with providing a home for her family.

In 1965 she married James "Jiggs" Bryan at Winterset. They continued to farm in Guthrie county until his death in 1982. During that same year Dorotha moved to Truro, and then to Des Moines in the summer of 1984.

On October 18, 1984, at the age of 65, Dorotha died at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Alfred Estell.

She is survived by one son, Joe Bryan and Margaret of Truro; four daughters, Jeanne Kordick and Wayne of Corning, Milly Sheldon and Dale of Truro, Carole Cloyed and George of Des Moines, and Karla Kramer and Lynn of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brothers, Floyd Estell of Denver, Colorado and Audry J. "Buck" Estell of Waterloo; and one sister, Wanda Kraetzer of West Bloomfield, Michigan.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 22, at 1:30 p.m. at the Beidelman Funeral Home, Panora, Iowa, with Rev. W. B. Brant officiating. Interment was in Brethren cemetery, Panora.
