BRUCE BROOKER DIES AT 43 YEARS

Bruce A. Brooker of Winterset died Christmas day in Des Moines of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 43 years of age.

Mr. Brooker was a son of Nelson and Blanche Addy Brooker, and was born in Madison county on Nov. 22, 1918. His life was spent in this community until he entered the U.S. army in 1942 for four years of service in World War II. He attended barber school in Des Moines and worked at that trade at Van Meter, before going to California in 1947, living there until 1959 when he returned to Iowa.

He was married March 22, 1942 at Las Vegas, Nev. to Jessie Hope Bates of Macksburg.

He leaves three sons, aged 13, Ronnie aged 11 and Kenneth aged 9 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Blanche Brooker of Winterset; five brothers, Judson, Norwood, Wilbur and Herbert Brooker of Winterset and Ralph Brooker of Des Moines; and four sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Reimann of Des Moines, Mrs. Rose Van Buren and Mrs. Darlene Fundinger of Desoto and Mrs. Madeline Porter of Winterset.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday from the Collins Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Robert A. Owens, pastor of the First Christian church of Winterset. Burial will be made in the Jefferson cemetery.
