December 30, 1894 - May 7, 1985Sadie F. Slavens, daughter of John and Carrie Cook Porter, was born December 30, 1894 in Boone County, Indiana. She passed away May 7, 1985 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset, Iowa.
She grew up and was educated in Indiana. On August 16, 1914, Sadie was united in marriage to Guy W. Slavens at Danville, Indiana and came to central Iowa to start her married life. To this union was born four children; John, Robert, Phillip and Doris. In March 1942 her husband Guy passed away.
Beginning in 1944 Sadie spent 16 years working at the Earlham Community School as a cook in the hot lunch program and retired in 1960.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 1 sister and a daughter, Doris Slavens McCartney. Surviving are her sons, John of Cumming, Robert of Earlham, and Philip of Dakota City, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
