William A. Brittain, Grand Junction

William Alfred Brittain, 80, of Grand Junction died of a heart ailment June 23, 2001, at a Jefferson residence.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at North McDonald Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Madison County, with Dr. Bobby G. Dickerson officiating. Military rites will be performed by American Legion Post 184 and V.F.W. Post 8142, both of Winterset. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 28, from 5-8 p.m. at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset. The family also will be present during the time.

William Brittain was born Nov. 29, 1920 in Winterset to Robert and Joanna Emma (McKenzie) Brittain. In 1957, he moved to Waukee and then later moved to Urbandale. He moved from Urbandale to Grand Junction in 1986. A Navy veteran of World War II, William had been a heavy equipment and automotive mechanic for the city of Urbandale. Following his retirement he worked as an auctioneer. He was a member of the V.F.W.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sons, one infant daughter, three brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Endsley of Yuma, Ariz., and Diana Carpenter of Clive; a son; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to his family.
