Lodine Kneller Brittain, Winterset

Lodine M. Kneller Brittain, 82, died of cancer Dec. 20, 2001, at Winterset Care Center North.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 24, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset with the Rev. Jim Howland officiating. Burial was at Bondurant Cemetery.

Lodine Brittain was born July 11, 1919, in Calhoun County to John and Ethyln (Lundeen) Smith. She graduated from Jolley High School in 1937. On July 23, 1939, she married Grant Kneller in Jolley. Mr. Kneller died Jan. 28, 1987. On Sept. 30, 1989, she married Clyde Brittain in Lorimor. She had resided in Lytton, Bondurant and Johnston prior to moving to Lorimor in 1982. In 1989, she moved to Winterset. Lodine, a homemaker, also had worked at Mary Lester Fabrics in Des Moines for 12 years. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset, the Women's Club and 500 Card Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and a sister.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Friedrickson (husband Ron) of Bondurant and Karel Ruttenburg (husband Jerry) of Kansas City, Mo.; a son, William Kneller (wife Deborah) of Winterset; a stepdaughter, Janet Williamson (husband James) of Cedar Falls; two stepsons, Marlin Brittain (wife Gretchen) of Earlham and Keith Brittain (wife Beverly) of Stuart; three brothers, Merle Smith (wife Grace) of Lanark, Ill,, Loran Smith (wife Patricia) of Beaverton, Ore., and Darrell Smith (wife Kathy) of Eden Prairie, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset or the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
