Betty Jean Reynolds
March 21, 1928 - March 27, 2001Betty Jean Reynolds was born the daughter of Lawrence and Zola (Hamlin) Douglas in Madison County, Iowa on March 21, 1928 and died at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset, Iowa on March 27, 2001 of complications due to cancer.
Betty attended the Earlham Community school and also the DeSoto schools graduating from DeSoto in 1945. Betty Douglas and Bob Reynolds were married on June 5, 1946 in Winterset, Iowa and immediately moved to Earlham where she lived the rest of her life.
Betty was the first director of Earlham Care. She also worked at Principal Financial in Des Moines as a pension administrator and also taught classes to new employees. Betty retired in 1990. Betty loved to work with crafts. She especially loved flowers and would press and dry flower petals and make her own cards to send to people. She also loved working with her flower garden and enjoyed reading. Of all her pastimes Betty best loved working with the church and Sunday School. Betty taught Sunday School for many years and was involved with many aspects of the church. Betty and Bob loved to travel. Betty also loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was often in the stands watching Wes play football or at the fair watching Rachel show her calves. Betty and Bob went on several bus trips around the states. They especially enjoyed those big trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Europe and Switzerland. Betty and Bob began vacationing in Arizona several years before they started wintering there 11 years ago.
Betty leaves the following family to celebrate her life: husband Bob of Earlham; daughter Sheri Capps and husband Earl of Winterset, Iowa; brother Wayne Douglas and wife Margrete of Park Rapids, Minnesota; sister Evelyn Shetterly and husband Ed of Florence, Arizona; sister Wilma Bobenhouse and husband Richard of Florence, Arizona; sister-in-law Marjorie Reynolds of Marion, Iowa; daughter-in-law Patti Kenworthy and husband Dick of Earlham, Iowa; grandson Wes Reynolds of Earlham, Iowa; granddaughter Rachel Reynolds of Earlham, Iowa. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and a son Rick Reynolds.
Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
