Former Farmer at Barney Passed at Home Here Monday
Charles Simpson, well known farmer of the Barney neighborhood for many years, died early Monday morning at his home in Winterset. He was 75 years of age, and had been in failing health for some time.
Mr. Simpson was born in Monroe township, Dec. 31, 1871, the son of Samuel and Eliza Dunaway Simpson. He was one of a family of 12 children. He was married Feb. 22, 1899 to Julia Palmer. Their active years were spent on a farm in the Barney neighborhood. About three years ago they retired, and moved into Winterset, which had since been their home.
He was a member of the Barney Church of Christ for many years.
Near surviving relatives are his wife; two brothers, Pascal Simpson of Winterset, and Jesse Simpson of Fullerton, Nebr.; and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Wright of Peru, Mrs. Bertha Gearhart of Lorimor, Mrs. Anna Sterling of Adel, and Mrs. Bessie Loomis of St. Charles.
Funeral services were held here Wednesday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. R. E. Langholz, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran church of Winterset. Burial was made in the Barney cemetery.
