Word has just been received here of the death of Eli Henderson, former Madison county resident, who died at his home in Denver, at the age of 94 years of age. Lee McGee of Denver writes the following account of his life, and of his relationship to Madison county people:
Eli Henderson, born in Ohio in 1842, completed his worldly journey of more than 94 years, April 30, 1937, at his home, at 334 West 12th avenue, Denver, Colorado. His funeral service was conducted by the Grand Army of the Republic.
Mr. Henderson emigrated from Ohio, to Dallas county, Iowa, in 1861, where he enlisted in Company K, 15th Iowa Infantry. Mustered out in 1865, he returned to Dallas county and soon after moved to Madison county and several years later to Guthrie, then about 1900 to Ft. Morgan, Colorado where he had previously purchased considerable farm land. In 1909, desiring to retire from the activities of farm life, he moved to Denver.
He is survived by four daughters and two sons, Mesdames Mary Mawlsby, Lillie Minard, and Grace Cooper of Denver, Orpha Planck of Kansas City, Missouri, Ernest Henderson of Denver, and Ralph Henderson of Ft. Morgan.
Well known to the older residents of Madison county, was a brother of Mr. Henderson, Daniel Henderson of Jackson township and a sister, Mrs. Mary Evans of Douglas. Mrs. Evans was the mother of Mrs. Tina Whetstone, Mrs. Ella Klingman and James Evans of Madison county and of Lee Evans, deceased. The husband, deceased, of Mrs. Mawlsby was William Mawlsby, of Earlham and the husband of Mrs. Minard was Charles Minard of St. Charles.
