GERALD WYCOFF Dies at 40 Years

Gerald E. Wycoff, age 40, of Winterset died last Thursday at a Des Moines hospital. His death was unexpected. He was fatally stricken at his home and died after an illness of only a few hours.

Mr. Wycoff had been a resident of Madison county the last 12 years. He was born at Grand River on June 4, 1927, a son of Arthur and Addie Shaw Wycoff.

He was employed as a machine shop helper by the Penn-Dixie Cement corporation. For the last four years he had been president of Local 258 of the United Cement, Lime and Gypsum Workers International Union at West Des Moines. He was a member of the Presbyterian church.

He was married at Earlham on Nov. 28, 1958, to Lucile Werts, who survives him. His parents preceded him in death. However, he leaves three young daughters, Sheryl, aged 8; Rebecca, aged 6, and Patricia, aged 9 months. He also leaves a brother, Harold E. Wycoff of Winterset; and two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Coverdell of Nashua and Mrs. Ruth Tate of Sweethome, Ore.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the First United Presbyterian church at Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. John E. Fink, and the Rev. Eugene Kinney of Earlham. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Gerald Eudean Wycoff was born June 4, 1927, at Grand River, Iowa. He was called home suddenly and unexpectedly at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines on September 28, 1967. He was 40 years of age.

Since 1955 he has resided in Madison county, and during the past four years he has served as president of Local No. 258, West Des Moines United Cement, Lime and Gypsum Workers International Union. He had been employed at Penn Dixie Cement Corp. the past 11 years.

On November 28, 1958, he was united in marriage to Lucile Mae Werts who survives him. In addition to his wife, he leaves to mourn three daughters: Sheryl, age 8; Rebecca, age 6; and Patricia, age 9 months; one brother, Harold Eugene Wycoff of Winterset; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Coverdell of Nashua, and Mrs. Ruth Tate of Sweethome, Oregon, together with many relatives, friends and neighbors.

Services were held for Gerald E. Wycoff, 40, at the First Presbyterian church at Winterset Friday.
