Samuel Amos Martin Jr., 85, of St. Charles died March 1, 2005, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were Friday, March 4, at the St. Charles Parish with Rev. Darold Snow officating. Burial was in the St. Charles Cemetery.
Sam was born to Samuel Wallace and Nora Ellen (Amos) Martin May 5, 1919, in Indianola. He was united in marriage to Susie Kathryn Breeding on Oct. 22, 1940 at the St. Charles Methodist Church. He was a lifelong farmer on the family's century farm and drove a bus for the Interstate 35 School District for 18 years. He was a member of the St. Charles Parish and a 50 year member of Model Lodge and Order of Eastern Star. He also belonged to the Rolling Wheels Camping Club, Buzzin' Dozen Card Club.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Max Meredith; and grandson, Nathaniel Grant Martin.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Helen Kay Hayden of St. Charles and Jane Busby of New Virginia; three sons, Sam Martin III of Indianola, Herschel Martin of Truro, and Gary Martin of Washington, Ill.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ramon W. Martin of Mesa, Ariz.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Charles Parish or Interstate 35 Booster Club.
Arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Homes in Truro.
