Harold Clarkson, Winterset

Harold Eugene Clarkson, 85, died May 1, 2005, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 4, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset with Pastor Bob Epperson officiating. Burial was at McDonald-Chase Cemetery, Douglas Township, Madison County, with military rites performed by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 and American Legion Post 184, both of Winterset.

Harold Clarkson was born Sept. 28, 1919 in Winterset to John and Merle (Benham) Clarkson. He was a 1937 graduate of Winterset High School and later served three years in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1962, he married Martha Mount. Harold had been a self-employed roofer, and during the early 1950s, worked construction at Tully Air Force Base in Greenland. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 8142 in Winterset.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Mount; and two brothers, two sisters, a stepsister and a half-sister.

He is survived by one son, Bob Clarkson of Des Moines; three stepchildren, Robert Mount of Ottumwa, Stanley Mount of Lorimor and Martha Ann Vandenbusch of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a brother, Jack Clarkson of Casa Grande, Ariz.; two half-siblings, Phillip Clarkson of Waterloo and Darlene Ecklov of Redfield; and 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the McDonald-Chase Cemetery.
