Lee Hircock, Earlham

Lela "Lee" Mae Hircock, 81, of Earlham died May 28, 2005, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 1, at Early Chapel Church in rural Earlham with Pastor Alan Finestead officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

Lee Hircock was born April 18, 1924, in Indianola to Howard and Amy (Brekenridge) Curtis. On Aug. 26, 1942, she married Edward Hircock in Missouri. Early in her marriage, she had worked at the Club Cafe in Winterset. Lee was a member of the Early Chapel Church where she was chairman of its publication department. She also was chairman of the Adel Chapter of NAMI Alliance for the mentally ill.

She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son, James; one daughter, Betty Dooley; a sister, Lillie McNeely; and two great-grandsons, Dakota and Damian.

She is survived by two daughters, Diana Barnett of Earlham and Peggy Higgins of Hamilton, Mont.; two sons, Donnie Hircock of Earlham and Dale Hircock of West Des Moines; two sisters, Mary Martin of Arkansas and Louise Renes of Des Moines; two brothers, Pearl Curtis of Newton and Dean Curtis of Des Moines; and seven grandchildren, nine stepgrandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter, Earlham and Redfield.
