DAISY DELL KING, Indianola

Daisy Dell King, 98, formerly of Lorimor, died April 10, 2006, at the Indianola Good Samaritan Center.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 15, at the Macksburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Sandy Smith officiating. Burial was at Moon Cemetery in rural Macksburg.

Daisy Dell King was born Feb. 16, 1908, in Macksburg to Charles and Flossie (Gillogly) Herren and was a 1925 graduate of Macksburg High School. On Aug. 27, 1927, she married George M. King in Macksburg. Daisy began her teaching career in Farson after receiving a two-year teaching certificate. She later continued her education, receiving both her Bachelor of Arts and master’s degrees from Drake University. She taught for 30 years in the East Union Community School District. Following retirement, she was a substitute teacher until age 78. She was a member of the Lorimor United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years, and the Women’s Relief Corps (50-year member) in Macksburg. She also was active in Royal Neighbors of America and volunteered with the Union County cancer drives as well as the Madison County Historical Complex in Winterset.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Janet Saxton Rode and Monty George King, and one great-grandson, Ryan Shields.

She is survived by three sons, John King of Creston, Bill King of Lorimor and George King of Treynor; one daughter, Mary Jo Lowry of Urbandale; a brother, Robert Herren of Creston; and nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Indianola Good Samaritan Center or Macksburg United Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
