Dorothy May Pettit, 80, of Winterset died April 10, 2006, at Winterset Care Center North.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 13, at the Church of the Nazarene in Winterset with Pastor Bill Branson officiating. Burial was at Peru Cemetery.
Dorothy Pettit was born March 23, 1926, in Madison County to Thomas and Isadora (Lamb) Mabbitt and was a graduate of Winterset High School. On March 2, 1944, she married Thomas Pettit. Dorothy was a homemaker and member of the New Hope Christian Union Church of Winterset. She was very active in church activities, as well as helping at church camps.
She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, Gene, Donald, Willis and Albert Mabbitt; and a sister, Louise Mabbitt.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Pettit of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Harry Pettit of Winterset; one daughter, Barbara Baker of Winterset; three sisters, the Rev. Rosemarie Mabbitt of Minneapolis, Minn., and Wanda Hall and Gloria Mabbitt, both of Branson, Mo.; a brother, John Mabbitt of Council Bluffs; and nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Winterset Church of the Nazarene.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
