November 8, 1899 - March 26, 1988

Merritt Wesley Harris was born November 8, 1899 in Eureka Township, Adair County, Iowa, son of Abraham Lincoln and Roena Huff Harris, and passed away March 26, 1988 at his home in Earlham, Iowa.

Merritt attended country school in Adair County. He married his neighbor, Atholl Ica Campfield in 1923. Atholl passed away in 1981.

He began working at road construction near Greenfield at the time when mules were used to pull the graders and scrapers. His life's work at construction continued until his retirement in 1968. Merritt was one of the first soil conservation contractors in the Earlham area.

Merritt was preceded in death by his wife Atholl; his parents; his brothers, Claude, Clifford, Fay, Carrie, Van and Boyd; his sisters, Russia and Dotti.

He is survived by a son Ted and wife Carol of Earlham and their children, Eve, Carrie, Ben and Dan; a son Roy of Earlham and his children, Jill, Kim and Mark; a son Don and wife Claudine of Van Meter and their son Bret; his sister India Spry and four great grandchildren.

Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
