Bernard E. Cook
April 8, 1897 - October 11, 1982Bernard E. Cook, son of William and Emma Cook, was born near Earlham, Iowa April 8, 1897 and passed away October 11, 1982 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital. Since July 1981 he was cared for at the Earlham Care Center.
Bernard graduated from the Earlham Academy and had a 39-year U.S. Postal career including work in Chicago and as a rural mail carrier in St. Charles and Earlham. Folowing retirement he enjoyed work in the mail box marker sales.
In 1918 he married Verle Barnett of Salem, Oregon. To this union five children were born; Marvin B., William Robert, Weldon, Carlene and Doris.
He was a member of the Earlham Friends Church. He loved doing things for others.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two sons - Marvin and Weldon, and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Verle; three children, William Robert of Chicago, Illinois, Carlene and Doris of Des Moines, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Ruth, of Wilmette, Illinois; one brother, Walter, of Earlham; one sister, Mabel Mowell, of Whittier, California, and many nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Bear Creek Cemetery, Earlham, Iowa
