Ken Billeter, Winterset

Kenneth LeRoy Billeter, 67, of Winterset died of a heart ailment Aug. 26, 2003, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 29, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with Pastor Robert Barrick officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

Ken Billeter was born Dec. 9, 1935, in Downey, Calif., to Lyle and Marie (Thornburg) Billeter. In 1969 he moved to Winterset. On July 25, 1975, he married Kay Driskill in Winterset. Ken had owned and operated the Northside Cafe in Winterset since 1988. He also was a former member and former chief of the Winterset Police department, serving in law enforcement over 20 years. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Billeter of Winterset; two daughters, Janet Strange of New Virginia and Sherry Savage of Smithfield, Va.; three sons, Richard Billeter of Hampton, Va., Troy Billeter of Lackey, Va., and Stacy Billeter of Winterset; a brother, Virgil Billeter of Yorktown, Va.; a sister, Mary Ann Evison of Murray; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association or Boys' Town.
